Porthcurno Telegraph Museum 10 Year Anniversary Celebrations

After 10 very successful years the museum will be celebrating and inviting past and present friends, volunteers and visitors to celebrate a great achievement.

In May 2008 the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum celebrates its 10th anniversary with a programme of special events and exhibitions. The museum is inviting past Cable & Wireless staff and local people to come down to Porthcurno this year to celebrate this great achievement. The celebrations will begin on the 10th of May 2008 and continue over the summer.

Once the site of the largest Telegraph station in the world, the museum now has the most complete functioning telegraph station left in the world. The site holds an important museum and archive collection, a great visitor attraction for all ages and is an important provider of science education in the South West.

Celebrations kick off on the 10 May with a Giant Tea Party for local residents, ex-C&W staff and their families to get together with each other , and to catch up and enjoy the museum gardens (with tea & cakes of course!). In the evening of the 10th there will be a drinks reception for the friends of PK (to join the Friends of the Museum see below) at the Minack Theatre prior to the evening performance. The big event will be a Jazz Night at the Minack to celebrate the past 10 years and raise money for the museum education programme.

Along with these events there will be an exhibition about the museum- where it came from, how much it has achieved and where it is going in the future.

In 1998 the museum opened its doors and the after a lot of hard work from staff, volunteers and the support of many funders including Cable and Wireless, the Heritage Lottery Fund, EU (Single Regeneration Budget) and individual donations. Starting life underground, the museum has developed into a large thriving museum of over 1500 sq metres set in beautiful gardens and next to one of the best beaches anywhere in the world. There have been a lot of developments in the last 10 years and the museum is celebrating all the hard work of everyone involved.
