This image shows the Great Eastern swamped by vessels that were sent out to meet her as she arrived at Newfoundland having completed the 1866 trans-Atlantic cable voyage.

This image was taken from a hill on shore and so looks down a little on the Great Eastern which is barely recognizable from the multitude of smaller vessels that swamp her. There is a confusion of masts and rigging and one wonders how well they all managed to untangle themselves!
