The Dearlove and Brown Perforator Slide 1 This is an example of an early automatic receiver. Photo of the receiver. Slide 2 Incoming signals were recorded for storage or onward re-transmission using an automatic transmitter like the Muirhead Transmitter. Many of these early telegraph instruments were hand made in small quantities by scientific instrument makers.
