Communications

How do we communicate? Do other living things communicate? What about machines? Why is communication important? Are some methods more efficient than others or better in certain circumstances? Could we survive without communication? These questions and many others are asked as starting points for project work across the curriculum from English and literacy to maths and science.
An animated talk using lots of artefacts from the museum collection that invites the pupils to get involved in activities and discussions and which stimulates their imaginations.
Artefacts include bells, buzzers, flags, cannonballs and more!

Literacy

For this session a collection of interesting and unusual artefacts will be brought out for the children to handle and discuss. None of them will be recognisable, so to be able to describe them accurately pupils will have to develop their vocabulary and broaden their descriptive talents! Pupils will be provided with writing frames, with space for sketches, and questions that encourage them to think about texture, colour, shape and materials. They are then invite to guess a possible use.
The session concludes with an explanation of each object drawing from the observational experiences of the pupils.
A popular and useful way to enliven your literacy curriculum.
