Testing a Cable
The process of grappling and recovering a submerged cable to repair it was lengthy and expensive, and the problem was magnified unless the cable ship could quickly be directed to the precise location of the fault.
'Test Sets' like the one shown here were developed to do this.

Capacitance was measured by comparison of discharge currents when comparing charges on the cable, and on a Precision Standard Capacitor.
