6. Up to Wireless Point
Follow the coastal path east until you reach a path off to the right leading to Pedn-men-an-Mere, also known locally as Wireless Point. At the end of this path you will see a large black-painted metal structure and a series of metal rings embedded in the ground around it. These are the remains of the supports for a radio aerial mast which was erected in 1902 by the Eastern Telegraph Company and used to spy on Marconis early radio activities on the Lizard.
Nearby is also a site where many Neolithic flint axe heads have been found it the past. In 1912 a member of staff at the telegraph station began to collect flints around Porthcurno and amassed numerous examples. He wrote up his findings in an article Flint Hunting at Porthcurno published in the staff magazine The Zodiac in 1917. Copies of this article are available in the museum shop.
